Serial Killer/Crime Drama
Projected Budget: $25 million
Plot:
Abby Stringer thought she had put all of her FBI days behind her when she was fired from the bureau several years ago, but a new serial killer in her hometown brought it all back including Special Agent Sean Woods the man who broke her heart and she swore she would never see again.
Background:
Facing the Devil started from reading and loving Tami Hoag crime novels and the Hannibal Ector novels by Thomas Harris (Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, and Red Dragon).
Unfortunately books cost money, and this screenwriter ran out of money to feed her addiction to good stories so during her downtime when studying at London College of Fashion, Mari Bengston wrote screenplays instead.
Facing the Devil is set in 1992, originally in a small mountain town in Colorado (might be changed to a California town instead). This is at a time when people with special needs sometimes became a scapegoat for people with money and power who wished to commit crimes.
This movie is rather unique in that the female lead, Abby, is the one who physically fights off the killer, instead of the male lead, Sean. It also explores the concepts of a strongly religious family who’s actions are not very moral.
Cinematic Style:
Facing the Devil is perfect for IMAX 3D with the beautiful mountain views and the intense fight scene with Abby and the killer. The dark background and warm yellow/orange lighting at the campsite is similar to Sinners, giving the audience the fear in Abby and themselves as they watch Abby protect herself from becoming the killers next victim.
